“China Collection” by Chan Yoke Ying

Ying has always enjoyed doodling in her younger days. It was only much later in life that her interest in drawing and painting evolved from a hobby to a passion. She paints mostly with watercolours, oils and acrylics. Her love of colours is reflected on her works. She also enjoys outdoor sketching with her friends. The colours and texture of nature and observing the cityscape provide much inspiration for her art. Besides painting, Ying is also a keen silversmith. She has been creating silver jewellery pieces using tradition metal smithing methods. Some of her silver and brass pieces have been incorporated into a few of her paintings and as a part of collaborative artwork with others.

In recent years, she participate in exhibitions with her artist friends and did commission works for institutions. This is an unexpected path for Ying as art was never a prominent of her school years. Painting and creating art pieces are not just a form of expression for her but also a process of introspection, unplugging from busyness of the outside world. Ying feels truly blessed to be able to pursue her love for the Arts.
