Canvas Stretching & Frame

Prints and Works on Canvas will be required to be stretched onto wooden stretcher bars only, without being framed. Ideally, canvases do not require glazing.

Do you have a rolled canvas painting or print you bought from your trip, a family inheritance or an art gallery that you will like to hang on the wall? If so, the best way to display it to its full potential is to get it stretched. After which you can then choose to frame it or hang it on the wall as is. You have multiple framing choices to choose from when you have your canvas – whether it is an oil/acrylic painting, or a print on canvas stretched at Ace Framing Gallery.

Various Framing Styles

Canvas stretched on stretcher bar – First and foremost, the canvas needs to be stretched onto a wooden stretcher bar. Our stretcher bar heights are 2cm and 4.5cm. Usually artists and printers will leave white borders around the painting image to allow room for the framers to stretch the canvas to the back of the stretcher bar. In general, large canvas will look good on the 4.5cm stretcher bar whereas small sized canvas looks better on 2cm. However, the choice is 100% yours.

It is important to stretch the canvas with the right tension. Not stretching tight enough will leave your canvas loose and wrinkled which over time can get worse – a slight curve will appear on your canvas. If you see your current canvas has that curve, bring it to us soon so we can fix and re-stretch the canvas tight and have it look brand new.

Stretched Canvas

If you are shipping a stretched canvas from overseas to your address, sagging can happen during process due to environmental conditions in different climates, mainly humidity. But this does not mean the canvas is defective or unusable! All you need to do is bring the canvas down to us and we will be able to help you with it.

Direct Framing of Canvas – Framing a canvas directly gives a museum feel, of course with an gold or a silver ornate frame adds on a grand feeling. If you would like to have a modern and classic look, white or black is the way to go.

Framed with floater / tray frame – This frame style adds the finishing touch to the stretched artwork, while the details from the sides of the canvas can still be appreciated. It gives a modern and contemporary look to the artwork, leaving a small gap away from the sides of the canvas and sitting just above the face of the piece, protecting the canvas.

Our tray frames come in different colors – Matte Black, Gold and Silver with Dark Highlights and Solid Wood options too. This style allows the painting to be seen in every angle, the shadow gap makes it appear as if your canvas is floating.

Framed with floater/tray frame

Framed canvas with glazing – Under certain circumstance, if you need to put a canvas along a busy walkway and do not want it to be touched. It is possible to place a glazing over the canvas, we will then recommend to use either the 99% UV Protected Plexiglass, TruVue Museum Grade Optium Plexiglass or UV Protected Anti Reflective GroGlass to ensure artwork is protected from the UV Sunrays. The glazing however will need to be raised so not to have any contact with the canvas, else the painting might be compromised.
